Payroll Administrator
Job Description
A commercial contracting company located in Kinston, NC, is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Payroll Administrator.
This role will manage and process payroll operations for a fast-paced, industrial field environment, ensuring accurate and timely payroll for both field and office employees.
The ideal candidate brings a solid background in construction or industrial payroll, deep knowledge of certified payroll reporting (Davis-Bacon/prevailing wage), and hands-on experience with Trimble software systems or similar construction ERP platforms. You will also play a key role in supporting employee benefits administration.
Payroll & Job Costing
- Process weekly and/or bi-weekly payroll for field and office staff accurately and on schedule.
- Review and verify time records, job costing allocations, per diem, reimbursements, and overtime.
- Ensure precise labor cost allocations to specific projects and phases in coordination with project managers.
- Research and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries professionally.
Certified Payroll & Compliance
- Prepare and submit certified payroll reports for federal, state, and prevailing wage projects (Davis-Bacon compliance).
- Monitor project labor classifications, apprentice ratios, and workforce compliance.
- Assist with labor compliance reviews and internal/external audits.
Benefits Administration
- Coordinate new hire benefit enrollments, status changes, and qualifying life events.
- Support the annual open enrollment process, employee communications, and benefit elections.
- Maintain accurate benefit records, coordinate with brokers, and audit payroll deductions.

Job Requirements
Experience: Minimum of (3 years of dedicated payroll administration experience.
Industry Expertise: Previous payroll experience within the construction or contracting industries is strongly preferred.
Compliance Knowledge: Proven experience processing certified payroll for federal or prevailing wage projects is required. Strong understanding of the Davis-Bacon Act and wage/hour laws.
Software Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) is required. Direct experience with Trimble (Viewpoint/Spectrum) or similar construction accounting software is highly preferred.
Education: Associate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
Certifications: CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) designation and a North Carolina Notary Public status are strong pluses.

Additional Information
Primarily an office-based environment, with the ability to work occasional extended hours as needed during critical payroll processing weeks, annual open enrollment, or key project deadlines.
Salary will be determined by experience, starting at $45,000+
